Overview
Ice rental rates for both casual (one time user) to regular or season long rentals is an important part of your business. Rates, however, must be calculated to earn the income you deserve and to balance the rates of your core membership.
Full time rentals: year-long rentals of ice are crucial to most curling rinks. But often we discount this because they are renters not members. But if you think of it, renters get many of the key privileges of membership: access to ice, the lounge, and parking. They can’t vote at your general meetings, nor can they compete in association events. But frankly, they likely don’t care about those things!
Spend some time thinking about these rates. For example, a member pays $300 for 25 weeks of curling. That’s $12 a game x 8 people per sheet or $96 per sheet per game you are collecting. Compare this to what you collect per sheet per week from renters.
A similar approach to causal ice time is important to generate revenue you deserve for having 8 people on a sheet of ice. Remember, you have an ice technician to pay, maybe property taxes, insurance for sure and other fixed costs. Think about the cost of any sport or entertainment activity. Is $20 for 2 hours of fun a reasonable price? If so, you should be charging $160 for one sheet of ice for 2 hours. You can offer free sliders, brooms, and helmets. Or make them add-ons. You can add a burger and fries and make the price $29 plus tax per person.
