Grants
Here is a list of grants available to Canadian curling rinks via various web sites.
The list includes:
- provincial and territorial sport/recreation websites where applications can be made for hosting events of various sizes;
- provincial and territorial tourism websites that have funds for hosting;
- websites with links to other funding programs (this was done to compile as many website opportunities within a fewer website addresses so that interested applicants do not have to search as much on their own time); and
- examples of major corporations that have grants for events, athletes, coaches and seminars.
There are many other grants available that could be used by curling clubs. These grants range from subjects such as capital projects, going “green” initiatives, and for individuals. When looking at a lot of local grants, there are opportunities if clubs can use their imaginations. As an example, there are other organizations that require space for their own purposes and while some clubs may not be up to the local building code requirements to initially be a partner, there are grants available to clubs to upgrade their facility to meet the necessary codes and fulfill the needs of both partners. The potential partners could be other not-for-profit organizations, charities and for-profit businesses.
One aspect is the concept of “food trucks” using the club kitchen as their “production site” to prepare their food that will be sold off-site. As food trucks are primarily a summer operation, this could lead to the kitchen being used during the summer and possibly the operator becoming the club’s in-house caterer during the curling season.
Another aspect to keep in mind is that, having a relationship with someone who is a Minister in the Provincial/Territorial government, a Reeve, Mayor, Councillor or key staff member can be beneficial when trying to access funds or navigating the ways of governments.
Many grants get moved around on an irregular basis and intake dates can change. Some grants are annual, some are biannual and some get eliminated or moved around which makes it tricky to find them as the amount of money seems to remain in their pots but gets shifted around. Once a person gets a handle on submitting grants and what the funding agency wants to receive, it becomes a consistent matter of supplying the accurate information.

OTHERS
Most cities may have grants available for projects that could be located in curling clubs during the season as well as during the off-season. There are also many large companies that have grants available that can assist capital projects, athlete development, coaching and support services. For example, https://www.avivacommunityfund.org/
