“Fifteen years ago, we brought the heat, but it wasn’t the kind we wanted,” Holland said. “This time, we hope to bring a different kind of heat to the arena—a competitive and thrilling one.”

“We just wanted to have a younger voice on our board of directors. If you’re trying to be an inclusive club, and listen to everyone that’s part of the club, and it’s their curling, you need to hear those younger voices.”

“When we were kids, we attended a curling clinic with ‘elite’ players of the time. It was exciting and helped shape our love for the game,” Muyres told SaskToday.ca. “We wanted to give Saskatchewan youth that same chance to fall in love with curling.”

The skip of unbeaten the Alberta women’s team at this week’s 2024 Everest Canadian Senior Curling Championships at Curl Moncton is part of the new Association of Curling Professionals (ACP) program that was introduced last year with the goal of developing teaching professionals who work at Canadian curling centres and offer their expertise to elite and club curlers alike.

Little did they know, back in 1834, that their first game of curling would mark the beginning of the Fergus Curling Club, which has become the longest continuously running curling club in Ontario.
